English for Specific Purposes

In today’s world English has become the dominant language of international business and legal relations. The ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally is a fundamental skill of the practising lawyer as you need up-to-date and accurate legal English in order to meet the challenges of work. Lawyers need to practice the skill of explaining complicated issues to non-lawyers. The aim of this course is to: • introduce legal English and demonstrate how it differs from standard English • provide guidance on various vocabulary and grammar issues that can cause difficulties in expressing basic legal concepts and constructions of legal English • raise awareness of the style and register used in legal letters and contractual documents. Topics covered: Study of Law, Contract Law, Tort & Criminal Law, Company Law.
